Appraisals

Appraisals

Both insureds and insurance companies are more commonly evoking the appraisal clause in the insurance policy to settle disputes and discrepancies involving claims.  For an insured, this route may be more economical and brought to a conclusion much faster than having to setttle a claim through litigation.  What many insured's may not understand is that the appraisal process does not apply to coverage denial issues, but rather to disputed damage amounts of the property only.

Our office has a dedicated team of appraisers on staff to handle these type of losses.  In most cases, we are able to reach agreements without having to bring in umpires to resolve the issues.  In the rare cases, where compromises can't be obtained, we have a list of umpires that have proven to be fair in their rulings.

If you have a policy holder that is adamant that they have not been treated fairly on a claim and the situation can't be resolved, may we suggest recommending the appraisal process.  Upon receipt of the assignment, we will review the entire claim file and meet with the insured's appraiser to resolve the matter before the high cost of defense litigation begins.
